Ghada Fawzi – Designer, Egypt

Ghada Fawzi

Ghada Fawzi is an architect and a designer from Egypt. She started designing jewellery very young and now works with several international jewellery design companies. Besides being a great designer, she is a wonderful person to talk to.

Here is a quick interview with her:

You’re an architect and a designer, what made you start designing jewellery?

It all started when I read about a jewellery design competition in the news. I started designing the kind of jewellery that I myself would like to wear, that makes me unique.
And when I won that competition, I realized that I have a true talent that impresses people; including professional jewellery designers. So I decided to continue in this field as it makes me thrilled each time I finish a new design.

How did you start showing your work to the public?

I started with the family, relatives and friends. Started to make designs on their special occasions, engagement, birthdays… They were so pleased and surprised, and then I started to get phone calls from people who saw theses designs, asking me to make new designs for them.

Did you try to show your work to any famous companies?

Yes I wanted to know the opinion of experts about my work, that’s why I showed some of my designs to many international jewellery companies which congratulated me and gave me some advice to go on

But, do you design specific pieces, or you design everything?

I design everything; necklaces, full sets, bracelets, rings earrings, pendants, even kids’ jewellery. But I find more interest in making rings and pendants

Tell me about Egyptian women; which pieces and styles do they prefer?

Egyptian women have their own oriental taste, even if you make a modern design. It’s a little hard to achieve their satisfaction because they want their pieces to fulfill beauty, durability and should be practical also. So designing for them is an interesting challenge.

Have you ever designed a piece for yourself?

Yes sure I made some pieces for myself, but the most one that I love is the letter “g”. I wear it all the time and I think it became a part of my personality.

Do you like a specific brand or follow its styles?

I prefer BVLGARI. I think it’s the best, it mixes beauty and simplicity. I think their designs are so elegant. But for me I don’t follow any style, as I like each piece to have its own style.

And how do you present your work?

At first I draw my idea on a small piece of paper, I keep drawing sketches with pencil till I reach I final stage and that’s when I’m satisfied with the design after that either I color it, or I start designing it’s digital version using AutoCAD, 3dsmax and Photoshop for final presentation.

What are your plans for the future and how do you see yourself 10 years from now?

For the near future, all I want for my work is to be identified and to make a great number of people know me, which is the way for making a brand in the future.
